President Barack Obama is a liar.

The man entrusted with the ultimate privilege looked the nation in the eye and betrayed each and everyone one of us. In a White House Correspondents’ dinner speech this May, Obama quipped: “[The Jersey Shore-Up provision] reads, ‘The following individuals shall be excluded from the indoor tanning tax within this bill: Snooki, JWOWW, The Situation and House minority leader John Boehner.’”

But fast-forward to this July and the set of “The View”. The hard-hitting tribunal of Joy Behar, Whoopi Goldberg, Elisabeth Hasselbeck & Co. grilled the President on his pop-culture wisdom:

At first, Snooki took the presidential diss in stride, asking “Obama? Is he an athlete?” But Snooki sprung into action after President Obama instituted a 10% tax on tanning beds. “I know he knows who I am,” Snooki told E! News on August 11. “Why did he have to lie and say he didn’t know me? He did say Snooki and JWoww about the tanning stuff and now he doesn’t know who I am? He has to stop lying.”

So there you have it. The President of the United States of America exposed by the … over-exposed DeepTan agent Snooki.

Once upon a time in a land far, far away (January 2009, Washington D.C.), back when the Jersey Shore was just a rickety Boardwalk New Yorkers scoffed at, back when President Obama vowed to close GITMO in a year, Obama was heralded as our nation’s first post-racial president.

Someone asked Obama a month into his presidency if he thought a lot about the history involved in being the first African-American president. Obama responded, he did… For about a day. Ever since, pundits have criticized Professor-In-Chief Obama for not doing more to advance racial quality. For not having his “teachable moment” on race yet. They are wrong.

Obama Already Had It

Obama’s underdog presidential campaign was a veritable Rorschach test on race in early 21st Century American. The son of a Kenyan father he never knew, the grandson of a white grandmother with stereotypes of her own, Obama campaigned, “in no other country on Earth is my story even possible. But in no other country would Obama have to walk such a racial tight-rope.

Some on the left openly questioned whether he was “black enough”. Some even claimed Hillary Clinton was “blacker” than he was. Meanwhile, others on the right alleged Obama even mentioning his black heritage was reverse racism. NYTimes’ columnist Charles M. Blow opined, to the right the very word “’racism’ has become a weapon … a shotgun blast sprayed wide and loose at all things anti-Obama.”

It was March 2008, and the Chosen One was losing some luster. Hillary Clinton was getting into a rhythm. Youtube clips of the Reverend Jeremiah “GOD DAMN AMERICA!” Wright were going viral. The Reverend, who presided over the Obamas’ wedding and baptized their daughters, now threatened to derail Barack’s entire presidential campaign.

With his back against the wall, the oratory master stepped up to the podium in Philadelphia and delivered the talk of his life. In a speech entitled A More Perfect Union, Obama finally spoke openly about race and what it meant to him. Rev. Wright wasn’t wrong for blasting race in America, Obama mused. Rev. Wright was wrong because he assumed race was static in America. To dismiss Rev. Wright, Obama argued, would convict us of the same crime, “to simplify and stereotype and amplify the negative to the point that it distorts reality.”

Instead, Obama offered a choice. We could continue to treat race “only as spectacle — as we did in the OJ trial — … or as fodder for the nightly news.” Or we could embrace our differences, like adults, end our “racial stalemate” and come together to solve health care, education, and the Iraq War.

Obama’s “A More Perfect Union” speech was hailed the world over as one of the most frank talks on race Americans had heard in decades. The 38 minute speech was watched 1.2 million times on Youtube within 24 hours, and the New Yorker maintains it ultimately catapulted him into the White House. Alas, another Reverend was not as appreciative.

What happened to you, Reverend?

You were one floor down when Martin Luther King Jr. was tragically assassinated in 1968. (Although a) you did later try and claim you were right there at the time of the shooting—contrary to eye-witnesses and photographs; and b) you wore the same blood-splattered turtleneck onto the Today show the following morning in a thinly-veiled publicity stunt.)

You were a legitimate candidate for the Democratic Presidential nominee in 1984 and 1988. The NYTimes even dubbed 1988 the “Year of Jackson”. But then skip to days after Obama’s “A More Perfect Union” speech two decades later:

The Reverend quickly apologized to Obama, who in the heat of the campaign trail didn’t have time but to graciously accept it. But surely the gaffe still registers with the cerebral Obama. The most troubling part isn’t what Rev. Jesse Jackson said. The most troubling part is if the ordained Baptist minister openly discusses castrating Obama deep in the lion’s den—a FOX News studio—what do you think he talks about back home on his couch?

Jesse Jackson’s heart is unconscionably in the right place, and his role as a Civil Rights pioneer shouldn’t be overlooked. The problem is he often seems to put his personal cause above the greater one. The problem is Jesse Jackson interjects himself into issues in a quest to stay more relevant than right. Like when he assailed Fox’s “Power Rangers” for featuring a White Ranger.

Or more recently, during the LeBron James Sweepstakes. When the Cleveland Cavaliers GM Dan Gilbert railed against LeBron James “taking [his] talents to South Beach”, the Reverend Jesse Jackson responded, “[Gilbert’s] feelings of betrayal personify a slave master mentality. He sees LeBron as a runaway slave.” No, your Reverend. LeBron James is not a runaway slave. Not when he’s leaving Cleveland for a $110.1 million/6 year contract. (He’s just another spoiled superstar who confessed he couldn’t a title with the hand he was dealt.)

Reverend, like it or not, you are the face of the modern day American black rights moment. How can President Obama take your counsel seriously when you rant like that? It’s not possible to lead a meaningful national dialogue on race relations when you just sound so crazy and out-of-touch.

Obama’s Been Kind Of Busy

Full Disclosure: It’s early, but I feel like I’ll be an Obama apologist for the rest of my life. I already think about Obama’s legacy. A lot. He is the first President us Millennials can call our own. Sure he doesn’t know who Snooki is and he just turned 49, but Obama will always be the cool professor who was in on the joke more than he wasn’t. My only hope is history properly appreciates President Obama for who he really is: Black Cinderella.

So it bothers me when critics write off Obama as another Jimmy Carter. President Obama’s achievements to date are the most sweeping since President Lyndon B. Johnson’s Great Society: $787 billion Stimulus package, tobacco regulation, improving America’s image abroad, credit card consumer rights, healthcare reform, tax cuts for the middle class, Wall Street regulation, etc. Not to mention Obama has “kept us safe”—the lone barometer of the George W. Bush Presidency and legacy. The problem, as Senator Christopher Dodd tells it, is “Democrats don’t know how to celebrate.”

That Obama has accomplished all this in spite of a Say No Republican Congress deserves FDR-ian praise. Since Republicans lost Congress during their 2006 midterm “thumpin’”, the party either threatened to use the filibuster or used it 70% of the time. (It was 8% in the LBJ’s day.) Their playbook has one play. Obama is too big to succeed. From the petty (cheering when Chicago didn’t get the Olympics) to the grand (blocking jobless benefits), many Republicans seem to root for President Obama to fail so they look better in November—country be damned in the mean time.

Racial equality isn’t the top priority on Americans’ minds in the wake of the Great Recession and two of the longest wars in our nation’s history. Yet give Obama credit. He selected Eric Holder as the first black Attorney General. He tapped Sonia Sotomayor to become the first Hispanic Supreme Court justice.

Major appointments aside, however, Obama rarely touches the race button. Sure, he toured a Ghana slave fortress with his daughter Sasha, but, by and large, the President just doesn’t do sweeping racial symbols. Instead, President Obama’s modus operandi on race is to just normalize it. Treat it as ho-hum business as usual. When a Harvard professor was arrested by a white cop for trying to break into his own home, Obama handled it like a neighborhood dust-up. He invited them over to the White House for a “Beer Summit”.

Obama knows his work isn’t finished. It’s barely even started. It’s not a post-racial America when the pay gap between white and black men has increased over the last three decades. It’s not an equal America when women are still paid 73 cents on the dollar. It’s not the United States of America when we have Arizona. And it’s not a free America when couples who deeply love each other—no matter their sexual orientation—can’t get married (for the most dubious of reasons).

Which brings us back to Snooki. You see, like President Obama, the cast of the “Jersey Shore” has been discriminated against. Like Obama, they have been teased because of the color of their skin (day-glow orange). Like Obama, they have been regularly asked to provide identification. But like Obama, they are self-made celebrities who rose from humble means to national prominence through their unique oratorical gifts.

So, in the interest of race relations, President Obama should invite the cast of “Jersey Shore” to the White House for a Ron Ron Juice Summit (a concoction of watermelon, cherries, cranberry juice and vodka always served bare-chested). Both sides have had an ample experience over the past two years dealing with obstructionist haters. With their powers combined, who knows what they can accomplish? You know, besides gym, tan, and laundry… SOURCE

Scientists Cure Cancer, But No One Takes Notice

Canadian researchers find a simple cure for cancer, but major pharmaceutical companies are not interested.

Researchers at the University of Alberta, in Edmonton, Canada have cured cancer last week, yet there is a little ripple in the news or in TV. It is a simple technique using very basic drug. The method employs dichloroacetate, which is currently used to treat metabolic disorders. So, there is no concern of side effects or about their long term effects.

This drug doesn’t require a patent, so anyone can employ it widely and cheaply compared to the costly cancer drugs produced by major pharmaceutical companies.

Canadian scientists tested this dichloroacetate (DCA) on human’s cells; it killed lung, breast and brain cancer cells and left the healthy cells alone. It was tested on Rats inflicted with severe tumors; their cells shrank when they were fed with water supplemented with DCA. The drug is widely available and the technique is easy to use, why the major drug companies are not involved? Or the Media interested in this find?

In human bodies there is a natural cancer fighting human cell, the mitochondria, but they need to be triggered to be effective. Scientists used to think that these mitochondria cells were damaged and thus ineffective against cancer. So they used to focus on glycolysis, which is less effective in curing cancer and more wasteful. The drug manufacturers focused on this glycolysis method to fight cancer. This DCA on the other hand doesn’t rely on glycolysis instead on mitochondria; it triggers the mitochondria which in turn fights the cancer cells.

The side effect of this is it also reactivates a process called apoptosis. You see, mitochondria contain an all-too-important self-destruct button that can't be pressed in cancer cells. Without it, tumors grow larger as cells refuse to be extinguished. Fully functioning mitochondria, thanks to DCA, can once again die.

With glycolysis turned off, the body produces less lactic acid, so the bad tissue around cancer cells doesn't break down and seed new tumors.

Pharmaceutical companies are not investing in this research because DCA method cannot be patented, without a patent they can’t make money, like they are doing now with their AIDS Patent. Since the pharmaceutical companies won’t develop this, the article says other independent laboratories should start producing this drug and do more research to confirm all the above findings and produce drugs. All the groundwork can be done in collaboration with the Universities, who will be glad to assist in such research and can develop an effective drug for curing cancer.

This article wants to raise awareness for this study, hope some independent companies and small startup will pick up this idea and produce these drugs, because the big companies won’t touch it for a long time.

Well here are my thoughts for today and the first time I will officially showcase my writing talents (sarcasm) online..Today is May 17th of 2011..I feel as I have felt all year long..Alive..Awake..Well mentally and spiritually at least..And lets not forget increasingly more disgusted with the way the world works..Politics..Reality TV..Education..Greed..Blah blah blah..I read a story today of how a homeless man who pan handles for change is paying for a hotel room for a single mother who fell hard on her luck and became homeless herself..A homeless man I said..I will never underestimate or doubt the pure love in the hearts of man, women or child..His only explanation is 'money is not my master'..And its these simple principles and mind states that would change the world..I really mean that..It doesn't sound corny..Or far fetched..The world is simple..Our greed and thirst for control of every nook and cranny of this earth complicated things..Believe me..

I often have conversations with people who just look at me with blank stares or utter confusion when I elaborate on my theories, concepts and ideas..Are they really that complex or has the entire world become a heaping bowl of ignorance not capable of independent, intelligent thought..I will go with the latter..I'm not a man who believes negativity will get you anywhere, so I will spend majority of my time on here trying to evoke the positive out of things..as difficult as that may seem at times..Although there will be times of pure chaos and morbid gloominess..(what kind of term was that?!!) We must understand that in order to get to the sunshine we must withstand the storm..This is a basic principle in life..You know like the Yin & The Yang..(cheesy I know) I hope people will bear with my sporadic thoughts and random moments on inspiration, frustration and discontent..My message is simple.Love rules all things..As wacky as that may sound..If you have ever had a child and held him or her in your arms you would understand this concept..The energy is comparable to nothing on this earth..Now imagine the entire planet in synchronicity and harmony with this emotion..The grand scale..Its almost incomprehensible..

I wonder how many of our members are old enough to remember when that commercial ran? It seems like not so long ago that people were waking up to our growing global problem. Now however it seems we are more concerned about Wall Street and whether our favorite sports team will make it to the playoffs.

The BP disaster of last year really got me pissed. Corporate greed, Government corruption. Religious bigotry. We fight over resources instead of providing for our fellow man. Yeah, like some advanced Alien race wants to make contact with us. Does anybody who believes in the possibility of Alien life think that they want us dragging our crap out into the cosmos?

I was amazed that so many of our ATS members were surprised or shocked over the recent mass global die offs of birds, fish, bees and bats. It isn't like we didn't see this coming. Scientists have for years warned about the effects of pollution
and what the possible consequences may be. Hell, even some of the oldest religious texts tell us about mass die offs of sea and land animals. Could they all be wrong?

We sit here in our modern world. Thinking we are kings over all that we survey while burning fossil fuels to maintain our comfort zone. Day in and Day out all day everyday 24/7 pumping ton after ton of garbage into the air as if it doesn't matter. The western world started with the industrial revolution. First it was mass burning of coal and now it's oil. Either through a giant factory smoke stack or out of our tail pipes one way or another we continue to pump toxins into the environment.

There are really only two things in nature that clean the air of pollutants. The Oceans and the worlds Forests. How have we been treating them? We clear cut for more farmland, more wood products and for living space. We have been in an all out assault on our forests since man first discovered fire.

Many of us will sit here and discuss the problems of the modern world with offering no real solutions. I don't know the answers I can only offer my opinion. The world is reaching 7 Billion people. We are in no danger of over population anytime soon BUT we are not supporting the people we already have. How can we Support an even larger population?

This is where it gets really bizarre, We have large companies such as Monsanto and Bayer who try to come off as if they are helping us with food production when in reality all they are doing is attempting to patent what we eat then charge through the nose for profit from that which God/Nature has produced. In the process they may be contributing to the downfall through genetic manipulation of organisms that took millions of years to develop and claim that it's safe with only a few months worth of testing.

Now it's a museum piece. Sure, there are vehicles on the market these days. However we could have had a major jump start had it's development and sales continued.

Space debris are a danger for satellites

Mankind polluted Earth’s oceans and atmosphere in an impressive way. According to the European Space Agency (ESA) it also polluted space in such a way that it represents a danger for satellites for the next 10,000 years !

To their website: “Since 1957, more than 4,800 space launches have led to an on-orbit population today of approximately 13,200 trackable objects, with sizes larger than 10 cm.”

Additionally, any object bigger than a centimeter represents an important danger for satellites because of their speed. There are up to 600,000 of them in terrestrial space.

We have the technology to actually do things differently and so far TPTB have been dragging butt to cooperate and actually do the NEXT RIGHT thing.

So what do TPTB do?
They build seed vaults to store as many seeds as possible.

The idea to build a monument scale, multi-millennial, all mechanical clock as an icon to long-term thinking came from computer scientist Danny Hillis. The construction site and access is on property owned by Amazon.com founder Jeff Bezos, who is also funding the construction of the project. The Clock site overlooks the valley where his space company, Blue Origin, has its launch site.

The Long Now Foundation will be starting geologic testing this month for an underground space to house a 10,000 Year Clock. The Clock design, headed up by computer scientist Danny Hillis of The Long Now Foundation, has been in progress for over fourteen years. The Clock will be all mechanical, designed to keep ticking for at least 10,000 years, and will keep track of many calendric and astronomic events. The first eight-foot-tall prototype of the Clock resides in The Science Museum in London.

The idea behind the Clock is to be an inspiration for long-term thinking, to help make thinking long term automatic and common, instead of difficult and rare. It is hoped to be an artifact to connect its visitors to the future in the same way relics from ancient civilizations connect us to the past.

So what exactly is going on? 2012, Alien Disclosure, Pole Shift, Increased regional flooding from ice cap melt off or are we about to simply repeat that which the Earth and Humans have done before? I'm not going to debate the whole Global warming/Climate change argument here. The Earth is changing, whether it is a result of man-made pollution or a natural cycle of Earth is irrelevant, what does matter to me is clean air, water and enough food for everybody.

It seems to me that the people of wealth and power aka The Elite may know something the rest of us do not. They seem more concerned with leaving these rather bizarre creations behind than using their immense wealth and supposed power to help solve global problems.

I don't know about you but I would love to leave our children clean water, fresh air and untouched forests. What can we do? Well I for one do my best to recycle. I don't buy cheap garbage simply because it's on sale. [Cut down on non essential production/pollution] If I don't need something I don't buy it. I turn off all electrical devises that I am not using. I walk to locations that are within a mile of me. I try to spread the word about the environment.

Am I a tree hugger. Yes and no. The problem is that those who have the power wont do a damn thing unless there is a profit in it! They hold all the advanced technology that can really make a difference. I seriously believe that mankind made a wrong turn when we turned our collective backs on Nikola Tesla.

I believe we can once again be in balance with Nature/Earth. As a matter of fact we have to, or we as a species wont last but a few hundred more years IMO. If this is read by anyone in say 200 years. I have a feeling they would agree with me.-Slayer 69 @ ATS
